‘Heart of Our Existence’: Walk To End Alzheimer’s Appreciation Game a culmination for City United FC

Pittsburgh City United FC owner and interim manager, Michael Anton Monsour Jr., has pinned his hopes that this coming Saturday will be the payoff of lot of hard work and investment from his efforts to build a lower-division soccer club which not only has focused on fielding a winning team, but one that lives up to its mission to make a difference in cause-related initiatives, particuarlly supporting the Alzheimer’s Association.

Monsour’s club will host division rival Sure Sports FC with a chance to qualify for the UPSL Northeast Divisional Playoffs.

As part of a cross-promotion with the Alzheimer’s Association, the match is being billed by the club as the Inaugural Walk To End Alzheimer’s Appreciation Game, to be played Saturday, October 16, 2021, with a scheduled 6 p.m. kickoff at UPMC Graham Field in Wilkinsburg.

“The Healthcare workers and volunteers deserve to be celebrated for their continued selfless efforts that have led to increased funding in research and awareness for this terrible disease and as a club and organization, their effort has been the guiding principle of our foundation,” Monsour stated. “Competing for a UPSL championship is important as it reflects our efforts as a team on the pitch, but this game, on this special day, is what matters most. This game stands for the very heart of our existence.”

Pittsburgh City United (5-2-1, 16pts) currently sit in second place in the Northeast Conference Beltway North Division as they’ll face Sure Sports FC (5-2,15pts) for a chance to clinch a playoff birth in the club’s highly anticipated Walk To End Alzheimer’s Appreciation Game.

The club’s staff and players will first be in attendance as volunteers at the Pittsburgh Walk to End Alzheimers event, which will be at Highmark Stadium, where the team will be greeting volunteers and helping in the day’s activities. Later that evening the team will be back in action in what club owner and current head coach Michael Anton Monsour says is the most important game in this club’s history.

“I founded this club on the principles of providing awareness about the Alzheimers disease, and to provide support for the efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association,” Monsour said. “Having been personally part of the volunteer efforts for the Alzheimers Association and specifically for the Walk, I know the sacrifice of time and effort our healthcare workers and volunteers have to put in, each year for this one very special day.”
