We are less than a week away from the WPIAL boys and girls soccer playoff brackets being released, as the girls’ schedule intensifies with many key section matchups in Class 3A, 2A and 1A on the final Thursday of the regular season.

Many playoff spots have been cliniched, but here are all of the unsettled playoff berths at stake heading into Thursday’s action:

  • Class 4A/Section 1:  Pine-Richland (2-6) and North Hills (2-7) are both still in contention for fourth place (and final playoff spot) out of this section.

UPDATE: North Hills clinches at least a tie for fourth place and the final playoff spot!

  • Class 3A/Section 1:  Kiski Area (6-5) holds the slight edge in standings over Indiana (5-6), but the two school face each other with Indiana trying to force a tie for fourth place and earn a playoff spot

UPDATE: Kiski Area beats Indiana, 3-1, to clinch final playoff spot from this section.

  • Class 3A/Section 2: Trinity (7-5) faces Ringgold (7-6) with a chance to secure the fourth and final playoff spot in the section. If Ringgold wins, Trinity will have to also beat Greensburg Salem (TBA) in a make-up of a postponed game to force a tie for the last playoff spot.

UPDATE: Trinity beats Ringgold, 4-1. Clinches final playoff spot from section.

  • Class 2A/Section 2:  Valley and Freeport (both with 2-5-1 section records) won’t face each other until Monday to decide the fourth and final playoff spot from this section.
  • Class 2A/Section 3:  McGuffey (3-6) can clinch the fourth and final playoff spot from this section on Saturday when they face Waynesburg Central (2-7).
  • Class 1A/Section 2: Bentworth (4-6-1) can clinch the fourth and final playoff spot from this section on Thursday if they defeat or tie vs Beth Center.
