The final couple days of the WPIAL boys and girls soccer regular season will be played on Monday and Tuesday, but with a few exceptions, most of the playoff spots have been cliniched as we head toward Wednesday’s playoff bracket selections.
In addition, please be aware that the WPIAL has once again determined that the teams with the highest seeding will be hosting playoff matches through the first two rounds, and it’s still uncertain if they will also host semifinal round matches at the highest seed.
The WPIAL Finals are scheduled to be played at Highmark Stadium, on Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7. However, if the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC clinch a home playoff spot, and likely will play on November 7, some of the WPIAL Championships’ schedule could be reshuffled slightly.
Here’s a look at Class 1A standings along with a Section-By-Section breakdown of the teams that are in the playoffs and our projections for seedings.
CLASS 1A
Across the classification, all playoff spots are clinched. Here’s a look at where they stand in each section and below a predicted look at the potential playoff seedings.

Sewickley Academy’s only blemish on its overall record came in a non-conference loss to Seton LaSalle, and a tie last week against OLSH. They’ll be looking for its first appearance in the WPIAL finals since 2017.

Greenburg Central Catholic are the two-time defending WPIAL champions who have rolled through the season against Class 1A competition, and this year have avoided playing Winchester Thurston in section after the sections were realligned.
Section 3

Riverview | 0-12-0 | 0-14-0 |
After losing in the WPIAL finals the previous two years to Greensburg Central Catholic, this Winchester Thurston team, which didn’t have much trouble in section this regular season, looks like a team on a mission to get back to Highmark Stadium, and this time, lift the WPIAL Champions trophy. WT’s draw came against Class 4A Pine-Richland on the first weekend of the season.
Section 4
IN: Bentworth, Seton-LaSalle, Brentwood, Chartiers-Houston
Team | Conf. Record |
Overall Record |
Bentworth | 9-0-1 | 13-1-1 |
Seton LaSalle | 7-2-1 | 9-3-1 |

Chartiers-Houston | 4-6-0 | 6-11-1 |
California | 2-8-0 | 2-12-0 |
Beth-Center | 0-10-0 | 0-14-0 |
Bentworth has rolled to an unbeaten section campaign, and its only loss is to Class 3A Laurel Highlands early in the season. They have beaten both Seton LaSalle and Class 2A’s Charleroi. For anyone who’s been to Bentworth for a soccer game knows that they might have one of the more distinct home field advantages and it could give them an inside edge to advance to the semifinal and final rounds.
