WPIAL Boys Soccer Class 2A Standings and Playoff Seeding Projections

The final couple days of the WPIAL boys and girls soccer regular season will be played on Monday and Tuesday, but with a few exceptions, most of the playoff spots have been cliniched as we head toward Wednesday’s playoff bracket selections.

In addition, please be aware that the WPIAL has once again determined that the teams with the highest seeding will be hosting playoff matches through the first two rounds, and it’s still uncertain if they will also host semifinal round matches at the highest seed.

The WPIAL Finals are scheduled to be played at Highmark Stadium, on Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7. However, if the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC clinch a home playoff spot, and likely will play on November 7, some of the WPIAL Championships’ schedule could be reshuffled slightly.

Here’s a look at Class 2A standings along with a Section-By-Section breakdown of the teams that are in the playoffs and our projections for seedings.

CLASS 2A

Across the classification, all playoff spots are clinched.  Here’s a look at where they stand in each section and below a predicted look at the potential playoff seedings.

Section 1

South Park, Elizabeth Forward, East Allegheny, ^Avonworth, ^Keystone Oaks

^ both schools finish in tie for fourth place and earn spot in WPIAL playoffs

Avonworth 6-6-0 7-7-0
Steel Valley 1-10-0 3-10-0
South Allegheny 0-11-0 1-13-0

South Park has rolled through an impressive unbeaten campaign without a loss in 17 games, and will likely be a one or two seed.  With Shady Side, Quaker Valley and Deer Lakes taking turns in playing in the WPIAL finals, maybe it’s time South Park can crash the party again.

Shady Side had a perfect season going until they were knocked off last week by third-place Leechburg.  Deer Lakes has remained a strong side coming out of this section, with some experienced players on the squad from their first-ever WPIAL title winning group that also made a deep run to the PIAA final.

Charleroi’s talented senior Eben McIntyre recently made some big news by announcing his commitment to Pitt, but can his team finally make their breakthrough run to the WPIAL finals this year? They’ve completely dominated the section with only losses coming on the road at Bentworth and against Class 3A playoff contender Laurel Highlands.

After a hard-luck, unfortunate situation that ended its season abruptly in 2020 due to numerous COVID-19 cased on the team at the end of the regular season, Quaker Valley, to no one’s surprise, have stormed back to dominate Section 4 once again and be one of the front-runners to take another Class 2A WPIAL title in 2021.  Ambridge have broken through in this section this season to finish ahead of North Catholic, who were co-champs with QV last year.
