WPIAL Boys Class 2A Soccer Playoff Bracket: Quaker Valley, South Park back in a big way

A year ago, Deer Lakes finally had their moment in capturing the Class 3A title, but this season, two mainstay programs in this classification have found their way back into favored status: Quaker Valley and South Park.  Quaker Valley didn’t have much trouble with competition in its section, but did post some impressive non-section wins — and losses — as their only two losses came to Class 4A Peters Twp (3-2) and Class 3A powerhouse West Allegheny.

Top four seeds:

  1. South Park
  2. Quaker Valley
  3. Shady Side Academy
  4. Charleroi

Anticipated Playoff schedule:

  • 1st Round:                   Monday, October 25
    • South Park
    • North Catholic vs McGuffey
    • Keystone Oaks vs Charleroi

    • Quaker Valley vs Burrell
    • Deer Lakes vs East Allegheny
    • SSA vs Freedom
    • Ambridge vs Leechburg
  • Quarterfinal Round     Thursday,, October 28
  • Semifinal Round          Monday, November 1
  • Final                             Friday/Saturday, November 5-6 (TBA)

PIAA Playoffs — brackets announced on Sunday, November 7 — with first round to begin Tuesday, November 9

John Krysinsky has covered soccer and other sports for many years for various publications and media outlets. He is also author of 'Miracle on the Mon' -- a book about the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, which chronicles the club, particularly the early years of Highmark Stadium with the narrative leading up to and centered around a remarkable match that helped provide a spark for the franchise. John has covered sports for Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, DK Pittsburgh Sports, Pittsburgh Sports Report, has served as color commentator on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC broadcasts, and worked with OPTA Stats and broadcast teams for US Open Cup and International Champions Cup matches held in the US. Krysinsky also served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at his alma mater, Point Park University, where he led the Pioneers to the first-ever winning seasons and playoff berths (1996-98); head coach of North Catholic boys (2007-08), associate head coach of Shady Side Academy boys (2009-2014).
