West’s brace, Yaple’s highlight reel goal lead Pitt to 3-0 win

ACC Women’s Soccer

Final:  Pitt 3, Boston College 0

Box Score

Pitt women’s soccer’s (10-6-0, 3-5-0) scored all three goals in the second half for a 3-0 shutout of Boston College (7-8-1, 1-7-0) Thursday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field.

“Overall pleased with the result tonight but extremely happy with the performance and our ability to respond to the staff’s message before the game, at halftime, and the response coming out of the delay,” said associate head coach Ben Waldrum.

“Our midfield was excellent tonight, and the play from our forwards showcased their ability to create chances and be dangerous in front of goal. We will enjoy the result but turn the focus to our upcoming opponent on Sunday.”

Back after missing the last four games, Amanda West drew a penalty kick in the 60th minute and converted it for the game-winning goal.

West scored the next goal, her team-leading eighth of the year, in the 74th minute, deflecting in a sliding shot right in front on the goal line on a cross from Landy Mertz.

Emily Yaple added a highlight reel goal with less than four minutes left, scoring on a bicycle kick for her fourth of the season. Off a corner kick, Chloe Minas collected a loose ball and sent a ball into the middle of the box for Yaple.

Pitt continues its three-game homestand to close out the regular season Sunday at 1 p.m. against Wake Forest.
