On Wednesday, Point Park University Director of Athletics John Ashaolu announced the hiring of Cameron Williams as the new head coach of Pioneers men’s soccer program.

Williams comes to Point Park after being the head men’s soccer coach at River States Conference member Brescia (Ky.) University the last three years.

“We are very excited to bring Cameron Williams to our coaching staff at Point Park University,” Ashaolu said. “We are impressed with what he has done at Brescia both on and off the field. He is a strong leader of men who has produced competitive teams within the River States Conference as well teams of high character and academic results.

“His detailed vision of what’s next for Pioneers men’s soccer stood out in this process and aligns with our values and goals. We look forward to him building on the established success of Point Park men’s soccer as the next leader of the program.”

“I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to be able to serve as the next head men’s soccer coach at Point Park University,” said Williams. “I’m excited to meet a group of young men who are hungry to win. I want to thank John Ashaolu and the search committee for giving me the chance to lead this program.”

“The future of this program is very promising. We will have expectations to compete for conference championships every year. As we usher in a new era, we will create a program that is of championship caliber, one that engages with the community, and a program that helps foster the growth of young men for our society. This is the future of Point Park Men’s Soccer”

Williams was named RSC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year in 2021 after leading the Bearcats to their best conference finish in the RSC. Brescia was 6-2-1 RSC to place second in the RSC regular season and earn an RSC Championship semifinals host berth.

The Brescia men’s soccer program also achieved highly off the field during Williams’ tenure as the recipient of the RSC Team of Character Award the last two years of 2020 and 2021 and as an NAIA Scholar-Team for two years in a row.

The RSC Team of Character award recognizes one men’s and one women’s team each year for its character and sportsmanship on the field, on campus and in the community. A deserving team demonstrates the NAIA’s core character values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship. The Bearcats earned the awards for their efforts in this area after a vote from a committee in conference.

Williams led Brescia to 25 wins and two RSC Championship semifinals appearances over three years from 2019-21. After being hired in summer 2019, he led the Bearcats to a record of 7-11 and 5-4 RSC that first year. That earned Brescia its first playoff home game, and a quarterfinal win over Asbury sent the Bearcats to the semifinals. A loss to eventual champion WVU Tech, 1-0, ended the year.

Brescia was 9-8-1 in 2020-21 for just its second winning season since 2010. That included a 4-4-1 RSC showing. The next fall of 2021, Brescia earned its second RSC semifinals appearance and posted a final record of 9-7-1 overall. The second-place finish in the standings was after Brescia was picked seventh in the conference in the preseason.

Prior to Brescia, Williams’ college coaching career included time as a women’s soccer assistant coach at Mobile (Ala.) and his alma mater La Grange (Ga.). While at Mobile, he assisted for a very successful program that reached as high as No. 5 in the NAIA Top 25 national rankings.

During his playing career at La Grange, Williams was an all-conference selection in 2009 and 2010. He was also the La Grange Golden Boot award winner and Team MVP in 2010. He ranks in the Top 10 of school history in points and goals.

Williams holds a USSF “C” License and a Level 1 Goalkeeping Diploma. While at Brescia, Williams also served as Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director.

Williams earned his master’s degree in teaching from La Grange in 2013. His bachelor’s degree from La Grange in 2011 was in sociology with a minor in coaching.
