Riverhounds Postgame: Griffin elated to score first career goal at Highmark Stadium

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC came out firing on all cylinders early in the match, and made one of their shots count in defeating the Birmingham Legion FC, 1-0, at Highmark Stadium on Saturday night at Highmark Stadium.

Hounds’ ironman midfielder Danny Griffin scored the lone goal in the 4th minute of the match, while goalkeeper Kevin Silva posted his second clean sheet of the season while playing effectively in coming off his line got grab numerous crosses and long balls.

“Really happy with the performance. They (Birmingham) are a good team. Starting to build momentum. We were ready to play,” Lilley said. “We’ve done a good job here, when bouncing back after tough losses. We were able to do that again tonight. We’re glad to come away with the three points,”

It was Griffin’s first-ever goal at Highmark Stadium, even after logging more minutes and played more games than any other player on the club in the past three seasons.

“Amazing,” Griffin exclaimed. “Yeah, that’s the first one here. I got to do it in front of the Steel Army too.”

With the victory, the Hounds improve their record to 6-2-1 (19 points), as they ended the match with 57/43 possession edge and outshot Birmingham 18-10, with a huge 8-0 edge in shots on frame.
