Pittsburgh City United Owner Michael Anton Monsour led group set to purchase Manchester 62 of Gibraltar National League

Pittsburgh Soccer Now has learned Pittsburgh City United owner and former head coach, Michael Anton Monsour will be traveling to Gibraltar this week in preparation to make an official announcement of the purchase of seven-time Gibraltar League Champion, Manchester 62 Football Club by M62 group led by Monsour.

The announcement will take place in a press conference in Gibraltar sometime next week.

Monsour, who said that he started conversations and was looking for a club to buy in Europe last year, shortly after Pittsburgh City United’s launch and inaugural season kicked off, has told PSN more details will be made available in the coming days.

Manchester 62 was established in 1962 under the name Manchester United of Gibraltar winning 7 league titles 3 league cups and 2 super cups before changing their name during the 2013-2014 season to Manchester 62.

This season Manchester 62 won the Challenger Cup which will automatically qualify them for the Quarterfinals of next year’s Rock Cup where the winner qualifies for European Cup competition. Manchester 62 plays in the Gibraltar National League which currently has 4 European qualifying spots, with the league winner each season earning a spot in the Champions League Qualifiers. 

Pittsburgh City United are currently playing in its second season in the UPSL, as one of Monsour’s former players, Dante Nichols, is the current head coach.
