Pitt, Robert Morris and Duquesne women’s soccer match notes (9/4/2022)

Non-conference match-ups continue for the area’s Division I women’s soccer teams as all three squads will jump back into action on Sunday, each with home match-up.

Here’s a brief look at all three match-ups.


Sunday, September 4, 2022

Robert Morris (women) vs Hampton – 1 p.m. (North Athletic Complex, Moon Twp)

  • RMU boast a 2-0-2 overall record.
  • All of the Colonials matches have been played at home thus far this season.
  • RMU’s road match vs Howard on Thursday was cancelled,due to positive tests within the Howard program and related safety concerns.
  • Key Colonials stats:
    • Currently a plus-3 in goal differential to start he season (6-3)
    • Averaging 1.5 goals per game
    • Outshot its opponents 52-38 thus far
    • All six goals have been assisted
  • Hampton (Williamsburg, VA) bring a 1-3-0 overall record into the contest.
  • In their previous meeting, in 2021, the Colonials defeated the Pirates, 4-2, in Williamsburg.

Robert Morris women remain unbeaten after playing UMass to 1-1 draw

Pitt (women) vs Cincinnati – 1 p.m. (Ambrose Urbanic Field)

  • Pitt (5-0) has outscored its non-conference opponents 22-1
  • The Panthers scoring at a rate of 4.4 goals a game to start the season.
  • Leading the way, senior forward Amanda West, the program’s all-time leading scorer, has added six goals and two assists in five matches
  • Assistant Ben Waldrum will coach the Panthers on Sunday, as Head Coach Randy Waldrum will be in Kansas City, then Washington D.C. coaching the Nigerian women’s soccer team as they take on the USWNT twice over the course of the next few days.
  • Cincinnati will pose a threat to Pitt’s unbeaten record, as they’re also without a loss (3-0-2), with draws against Michigan State and Bowling Green.

He is also author of 'Miracle on the Mon' -- a book about the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, which chronicles the club, particularly the early years of Highmark Stadium with the narrative leading up to and centered around a remarkable match that helped provide a spark for the franchise. John has covered sports for Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, DK Pittsburgh Sports, Pittsburgh Sports Report, has served as color commentator on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC broadcasts, and worked with OPTA Stats and broadcast teams for US Open Cup and International Champions Cup matches held in the US. Krysinsky also served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at his alma mater, Point Park University, where he led the Pioneers to the first-ever winning seasons and playoff berths (1996-98); head coach of North Catholic boys (2007-08), associate head coach of Shady Side Academy boys (2009-2014).
