The game-winning goal by senior Kayla Veloso-Lima help lift the Robert Morris University women’s soccer team to a 1-0 shutout over UMBC on Sunday afternoon at the North Athletic Complex.

With the win, the Colonials remain unbeaten and extend their winning streak to three-straight as they improve to 5-0-2 overall. Meanwhile, the Retrievers fall to 4-2-2 after coming into todays match winning four of their last five contest.

“Great to get a result against a solid UMBC team to finish up the non-conference slate undefeated,” head coach Chris Shaw said. “Our players battled hard today and showed a lot of fight.”

The Colonials opened the contest aggressively as they recorded six shots, four of them on goal in the first 15 minutes. RMU continued to spray the net over the next five minutes, while tallying three more shots. UMBC threated in the 27′, when Alyssa Palmucci delivered a strike to the bottom left side of the net, that was saved by redshirt senior keeper Isabella Bohlen.

After a throw in by freshman Malia Kearns, classmate Paloma Swankler was able to beat her defender down the right side and delivered a cross to the far-left post, that found the right foot of Veloso-Lima at the 30:07-mark.
