The beat goes on for No. 25 Pitt men’s soccer team as returns home Monday night to face yet another ranked side, as No. 10 Denver comes to town for a non-conference showdown at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Monday’s match.

In non-conference matches this season, the Panthers have already faced three ranked opponents (Georgetown, WVU and Akron), and with this match and the looming showdown with crosstown Duquesne, they’ll have two more.

Pitt has been without a win since mid-September, as they’re currently mounting a four-match winless streak, with its last result coming Friday when they rallied for a second half equalizer to level No. 23 Clemson at Ambrose.

There’s a distinct possibility that the Panthers could drop out of the United Soccer Coaches poll if they fell short on Monday.

Head Coach Jay Vidovich was encouraged by his team’s second half effort, as they had their backs against the wall on Friday night against Clemson, but stayed on the front foot to close out the match.

“Think we had three, four better than half chances in the first half and then their only looks came off the two corner kicks. Second half, six minutes we draw blood and I thought we had a great run of the game. There was one, two spells where they had it, but otherwise I thought we were in control of the game.”

While Pitt’s relied on veteran leaders this season including Valentin Noel, Bertin Jacquesson, Filip Mirkovic and Jackson Walti, former Deer Lakes standout Michael Sullivan made his third start and played his first, full-90 minute match this season on Friday, as he generated a couple of shot opportunities.
