Pitt’s Valentin Noel and Filip Mirkovic Receive Regional Honors

Pitt men’s soccer midfielders in senior Valentin Noel and Filip Mirkovic are two of the best players in the country and are earning accolades to prove that, as both players received a place on the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region team on Tuesday.

Noel leads the team with 11 goals, including four in the past three games of the NCAA Tournament. That includes two penalty kick goals in the 3-0 victory over Akron in the Second Round, the game tying goal in the Kentucky match in the Sweet 16 and then the game winner over Portland last Saturday in the Elite Eight. Noel leads the Panthers with 25 points this season as well.

He currently holds 35 goals since starting with the Panthers in 2019, which is second most all time in program history, and ranks third with 83 career points. This is the third time that Noel has received All-South Region honors as a Panther

Mirkovic is Pitt’s best passer of the ball and is first in assists with 12, which is also a single-season record for a Pitt player.  He also scored three goals this season for a total of 18 points. Those 12 assists are the most in the ACC and his .63 assists per game are fifth best in Division I.

This is the first All-South Region honor for Mirkovic in his career. He and Noel also placed on the All-ACC First-Team back in November.

The duo and Pitt prepare to take on No. 12 Indiana in the College Cup semifinal on Friday Dec. 9 at 8:30 p.m. in hopes of making the National Title game.

NCAA Men’s Soccer College Cup: Pitt-Indiana semifinal rematch set for Friday at 8:30 p.m.
