Pittsburgh Riverhounds announce six-game preseason slate

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds released their six-game preseason slate on Monday as they prepare for the upcoming 2023 season.

The Riverhounds start their preseason with a visit to the Columbus Crew in the MLS. They will play each other in a closed doors fixture at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4 at OhioHealth Performance Center, the practice facility of the Crew.

Pittsburgh then hosts two college programs in Penn State on Saturday, Feb. 11 and then Akron on Saturday, Feb. 18, with bock kickoffs at 4 p.m.

The Riverhounds will face off against USL Championship rival Detroit City FC. on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m.

They will also play against Pitt on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at Highmark Stadium. Pitt is coming off another successful season under head coach Jay Vidovich, where they made an appearance in the College Cup for the second time in three seasons.

The Riverhounds finish off their preseason with a match at home against reigning USL Championship Eastern Conference champions in Louisville City FC on Saturday, March 4 at 2 p.m. The Riverhounds lost on penalties to Louisville in the 2022 Eastern Conference Semifinals after taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

Pittsburgh will play all their home matches at Highmark Stadium and they are free to the general public. If the conditions are wintry, the team will move the games to to the indoor field at the Hounds’ new AHN Montour Junction Sports Complex in Coraopolis.

The Riverhounds begin their 2023 season on the road against Birmingham Legion FC on Saturday, March 11. Their home opener pits them against Miami FC on Friday, March 24 at 7 p.m.
