In Robert Morris men’s soccer’s second consecutive Horizon League Tournament appearance, the Colonials showed lots of fight, but came up short in the first round, losing at Oakland in a match that ended in a 2-2 after 110 minutes-plus of play, then went to penalty kicks on Sunday afternoon.
Chase Gilley scored early in the match to give RMU the 1-0 lead in the 8th minute, a he redirected a diagonal cross that came in from the right side, from Charlie Lawrence.

However, the Colonials found themselved playing down a man shortly after, as William Dodzi Afawubo was sent off with a red card in the 16th minute.
Goalkeeper Fredrich Petrilli came up big multiple times with multiple diving saves to keep Robert Morris in the lead at the half.
Oakland did eventually get the equalizer in the 66th minute,

Robert Morris hung on for much of the match, allowing an equalizer, then fell behind 2-1, in the extra time period.

However, Lucas Shearer found the improbable equalizer on a free kick to tie the game at 2-2.

The match would go to penalties.
Senior goalkeeper Mike Zolnierczyk was subbed in for the Colonials in the penalty shootout.
The Colonials could have clinched the match twice, following Oakland misses, but each time, the Colonials could not convert from the spot.

The Colonials had two opportunities to win the game after the previous Oakland shooter had missed.
In round nine, Jack Klomparens scored for Oakland, and RMU’s Jacob Haskins was denied, as the Golden Grizzlies pulled through for the win, advancing to the Horizon League semifinal round.
