As the first full week of October has arrived — that means a lot more High School girls soccer will be played around Western Pennsylvania in the coming days starting with a full schedule on Monday.

Before that — be sure to check out the latest WPIAL standings for all four classifications plus we have our — now — weekly WPIAL Playoff Seeding Projections as we move closer to the Wednesday, October 21, playoff bracket announcement, with the District 7 playoffs tournaments starting shortly after that.  (Please note that standings do not include Monday’s scores)

Additionally, the Pittsburgh Soccer Now team (John Krysinsky reporting and Ed Thompson on photography) were at Upper St. Clair to provide on-site coverage as Upper St. Clair hosted section rival Canon-McMillan in a critical Section 2 clash that doubles as Suicide Prevention Awareness Night (Green Out) supporting NAMI, AFSP, and Katie’s Save.

Featured Matches of the Week

• Wednesday, Oct. 7: South Park at Seton LaSalle (Class 2A Section 1) – 7:30 PM

  • What an impressive campaign it’s been for undefeated South Park.  While they have to take care of business on Monday vs McGuffey, but they have a chance to extend its perfect record on the road and take a huge step in securing a Section title against second-place Seton LaSalle in Section 1 play on Wednesday evening.

• Wednesday, Oct. 7: Avonworth at Central Valley (Class 2A Section 3) – 7:30 PM

  • High-stakes Section 3 battle where both teams remain locked near the top of a tight playoff race. Both teams have matches on Monday, but it’s possible that the winner of this match will get a significant leg up in the race for the top spot and playoff seeding in a very competitive Class 2A.
