Adidas High School Players of the Week: Colton Spence (Deer Lakes) & Cande Kossel (Bentworth)

Thanks to all those who sent in nominations for week one Adidas Players of the Week.

Here are our week one honorees:

Cande Kossel

Senior Goalkeeper – Bentworth

Kossel is considered one of the top returning girls keepers in single A competition, and started off the first weekend of the season with a few strong outings going against competition in higher classifications.

The Senior recorded a pair of clean sheets at the Fayette County invitational as Class 1A Bentworth knocked off Class 3A Uniontown, 6-0, then defeated Class 3A Ringgold.  In the two shutouts, Kossel had an impressive 30 total saves, including 25 against Ringgold!

Heading into her senior season, Kossel already holds the school record for most shutouts.

Colton Spence

Sophomore Midfielder – Deer Lakes

The Deer Lakes midfielder has been off to a terrific start this season, recording four goals and two assists in three games, leading the Lancers to an undefeated start.

Over the weekend, Deer Lakes knocked off a pair of top teams in 1A classification, topping Winchester Thurston (6-2) and Seton LaSalle (2-0) — as Spence led the way with a goal and an assist brace.  Spence added a hat trick in a big win over Valley on Tuesday.
