GIRLS SOCCER WRAP-AROUND

On the final Monday of the WPIAL soccer regular season, numerous Section Titles and final spots in races for final playoff spots were clinched.

It was a full slate of girls section play, which included North Allegheny sealing the deal in Class 4A, Section 1, and likely a number one seed in the upcoming playoff brackets as Abigail Stager scored her 28th goal of the season in the 24th minute as North Allegheny (17-0, 14-0) defeated Seneca Valley (13-2-1, 11-2-1).  Natalie Rak recorded the shutout for the Tigers.

With its 7-2 win over Norwin, Upper St Clair officially clinched Class 4A, Section 2 title.   And with a narrow, 1-0 win vs Bethel Park, Mt. Lebanon (8-4-2 in Section) earns the final playoff spot in Section 2.

Lola Abraham, the WPIAL’s girls soccer scoring leader and Pitt commit, recorded a hat trick as red-hot Riverview won its 15th straight match and captured its first-ever section title topping Springdale, 3-2, in a Class 1A Section 1.

Ella Miller scored the golden goal on an assist from Lake Litwinovich as Waynesburg (11-4, 8-4) concluded its Class 1A Section 2 schedule with a 1-0 overtime win against host South Allegheny (11-7, 6-6). Peyton Cowell registered a clean sheet for the Raiders.

In an interesting non-section match that playoff seeding committee may be taking a look at, South Park capped its season with a 2-0 road win against Class 1A No. 3 ranked Winchester Thurston (10-2). Brooke Paylo and Aubrey Tabak scored for the Eagles, who finish with a 13-4 mark.

Both Avonworth and North Catholic will be co-champions of Class 2A, Section 1, as the Lopes defeated Quaker Valley, 3-1, while North Catholic topped Beaver, 4-0.

In Class 3A, Section 4, in a three way tussle for the top spot, Montour (12-2-3, 9-2-1) beat West Allegheny (10-7, 6-7), 3-0. Mia Cyanovich, Marlo Cyanovich and Riley Hall scored goals for the Spartans, while Grace Bannon recorded two assists, while South Fayette (9-2-1 in section), defeated Chartiers Valley.

With a win vs Chartiers Valley on Tuesday, and idle Moon (8-1-2 in section), will overtake both Montour and South Fayette to earn the Section title and put themselves in position to be a top four seed in the upcoming playoffs.
