The Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC faced Orange County SC in the club’s 2024 home opener at Highmark Stadium on Saturday night — and for the second straight match to start the season the defending Players Shield winners were shut out, losing 2-0, despite another sellout crowd.
The festive atmosphere at Highmark Stadium, with a match played before one of the largest crowds in the club’s history of home openers, drew plenty of fan reaction on Twitter/X.
Here are highlights of some of the tweets that stood out.

Heaven is a place on Earth.
When so much of the soccer world feels corrupt and gross, I cannot tell you how happy I am to support the Riverhounds.
I love this city. I love this club.#HOUNDTAHN #UNLEASH pic.twitter.com/eNm4wKvxF0

Weird commentary in the #PITvOC match: Pitt going out in playoffs last year as greatest upset in USL history.
I mean… I can think of others. What do you think?

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds have not had back to back losses where they failed to score since June 2022 (3-0 loss to Charleston and 1-0 loss to RGV).
This is Pittsburgh’s first home defeat in the regular season where they’ve been shutout since October 2022. #PGHvOC
