Reaction Around HoundTahn: Lilley not pleased, but fans cherish Riverhounds’ rainy night victory

It was a dark, dreary night at Highmark Stadium, but that didn’t stop the Pittsburgh Riverhounds from pushing through with a 1-0 win vs The Miami FC to extend its winning streak to three matches, and pull their record to an even 3-3-2 for the 2024 league campaign.

Before the match, there was moment of silence to honor Terry “T.C.” Shallenberger, the father of team owner, Tuffy Shallenberger. Terry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and avid fan of the Hounds, and he will be missed by all in the Riverhounds family.

PSN’s Colton Coreschi was at Highmark Stadium reporting on the match for PSN (catch the post match report from Colton here), while Ed Thompson caught images of the festivities and action.

Hounds Head Coach Bob Lilley wasn’t too happy with his team’s inability to put the match away, even after pulling ahead early in the first half, they couldn’t convert on numerous second half chances.

“Look, we were poor tonight,” Lilley said.

“We didn’t work hard enough. There was no pressure the first 10 to 20 minutes. (Miami) dictated a lot of the game. They played through us. It started at the beginning of the game. We weren’t willing to get in their face. We defended fairly well, but they were dribbling through us so easily that the game was stretched. We were fortunate to get three points tonight with the way we played.

“I know it’s tough to win a game and be negative, but I don’t think we’re going to win many games playing like that.”

Look for more post match reaction and analysis to come from Colton Coreschi and John Krysinsky in the next couple of days, as the Hounds will have a short turnaround before their Open Cup match vs FC Tulsa, on Tuesday night (7 pm kickoff) at Highmark Stadium.

There was also plenty of Twitter reaction from around HoundTahn following the win — which we have below.
