Pitt Men’s Soccer went 1-0 last week, taking down the then-No. 22 SMU Mustangs in their ACC road opener behind a furious second half that saw them score three goals in a come-from-behind win.
Defeating SMU gave Pitt their second ranked win of the season and an as-yet unblemished record in the powerhouse ACC, which saw seven teams ranked in this week’s United Soccer Coaches Poll.
The Panthers, owners of a 4-1-0 record overall, check in at No. 7 in Tuesday’s poll. Their ranking marks a one spot improvement from last week, while Top Drawer Soccer’s poll saw them skyrocket from No. 12 to No. 6.
In the coaches poll, Pitt trails No. 3 Stanford and No. 5 Clemson for the conference lead; the other ACC inclusions are No. 11 North Carolina, No. 17 Virginia Tech, No. 23 Notre Dame and No. 24 NC State.
7 teams deep in the Top 25.

Of those teams, Pitt will only play the Tar Heels and Hokies this season… albeit both on the road.
Pitt Men’s Soccer will benefit from a light schedule once again this week, hosting Louisville in their conference home opener at 7 pm on Friday, September 13.
