NCAA Men’s Soccer Touranment: Brackets are out, Pitt and Robert Morris Make History

The 2024 NCAA DI men’s soccer tournament is upon us.

For the first time ever, two schools from Pittsburgh will be represented in the 48-team single-elimination championship.

Pitt backed out of the ACC Tournament in ignominious fashion, losing 2-0 to the Virginia Cavaliers—a team they beat 4-1 just two weeks prior—in their first game despite winning finishing atop the conference’s regular season standings for the first time in program history.

That early exit didn’t hurt the Panthers’ NCAA Tournament outlook, though… unless one considers the No. 2 overall seed a slight. Pitt will host up to three home games in the tournament, up until the College Cup, landing atop the bottom right corner of the bracket. Their postseason run will begin on Sunday, November 24 against the winner of Thursday’s Round of 48 matchup between Cornell and Fordham. The two teams made it to the semifinals of the Ivy League and A-10 conference tournaments, respectively.

Robert Morris won the Horizon League title with a gutsy 1-0 decision over Oakland and earned their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2005 in doing so. They’ll open against the University of Michigan at 7 p.m. on Thursday, playing in Ann Arbor in the bottom left corner of the bracket.
