Instant Match Summary

For only the second time in history of series between the two clubs that dates back to 2018, Loudoun United SC defeated the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Segra Field.

With the loss, the Hounds (now 2W-1D-3L, 7 points) drop their second consecutive league match, while Loudoun (6W-0D-1L, 18 points) stays at the top of the Eastern Conference table.

Pittsburgh’s lone goal came from midfielder Jorge Garcia in the 71st minute, equalizing the match.

From that point, everything fell apart for Pittsburgh, as defender Luke Biasi was sent off for a dangerous play which resulted in his second booking of the match in the 73rd minute.

The league’s leading goal scorer — 20 year old Egyptian — Abdellatif Aboukoura — then came up with the game-winner, with a well-placed right footed finish from 17 yards that found its way inside the right post.

The Hounds could not seize on a strong first half hour of the match where they appeared in control both in possession and restricting the Loudoun attack.

The hosts took advantage of their best chance of the first half in the 36th minute when Zach Ryan ran a ball down in transition to the left endline — then carved out a perfectly placed left-footed cross that connected with a rising Wesley Leggett, who hit his header past the outstretched arms of Hounds goalkeeper Eric Dick.

Pittsburgh is now 7-2-0 in eight trips to Segra– and 13w-2l-2d all time head-to-head vs Ryan Martin’s club.

The Hounds will return to action next week, when they begin play in USL’s Jägermeister  Cup tournament, as they’ll stay on the road, taking on Detroit City FC, on Saturday, April 26.

Second Half

FINAL – LOUDOUN 2, PITTSBURGH 1

The Hounds can’t find an equalizer playing down a man, and that’s it for the match.  Pittsburgh is now 2W-1D-3L overall in league play.

There no doubt that this is a difficult stretch of the season for the Hounds, who are also a bit hobbled with some key injuries — but still no excuses.

Overall the club is struggling to find any consistency on the road, especially having trouble unlocking opponents and being more dynamic in the final third.

Where have we seen this before?

Still, Jorge Garcia’s strike was the lone bright spot.

90′  – More SUBS for LOUDOUN

  • ON: Pendleton & Erlandson (Joshua)
  • OFF: Aboukoura & Santos

88′ – Hounds are generating enough possession — and create free kick chance. It’s Garcia (the goal scorer) who gives a 24 yard chance a good effort but it bends wide left.

81′ – GOAL — LOUDOUN 2, PITTSBURGH 1

Another terrific strike — this one comes from the league’s leading goal scorer — 20 year old Egyptian — Abdellatif Aboukoura — with a well-placed right footed finish from 17 yards that finds its way inside the right post.

76′ — RED CARD — RIVERHOUNDS – Luke Biasi

Hounds will now be playing down a man.

Sitting on yellow card — Biasi goes up with dangerous effort to deny ball attempt toward

73′ – Valot slips behind the Hounds defenders and the flag stays down… the Loudoun man drags a shot back across goal that goes just wide. Scary moment after pulling level.

71′ — GOAL — RIVERHOUNDS — Jorge Garcia with a brilliant strike!

64‘ – SUBS – LOUDOUN –Riley Bidois replaces Zach Ryan.  Moses Nyeman replaces Jacob Erlandson.

62‘  –  SUBS – PITTSBURGH  Jorge Garcia replaces Jason Bouregy. Beto Ydrach replaces Illal Osumanu.

62′ – Hounds high press results in Walti interception on edge of box — but as he takes touch into box and takes shot it’s blocked from behind for corner!

61′ — Another sequence where Hounds short passing through middle ends with a short diagonal pass that can’t reach Williams.

59′ – Good advance for the Hounds deep into box thanks to Mertz moving well on the ball. Then, ball played wide to Perrin Barnes — see a second pass chance deflected.

56‘ – YELLOW CARD — Luke Biasi  is shown the yellow card for a bad foul.

51′ – Hounds caught on Loundoun transition — but after Leggett tracks down ball and plays to middle for Ryan — who’s shot is slightly blocked.   Corner for Loudoun which is thwarted by Hounds.

49′ – SAVE!  Eric Dick gets down quickly to stop Valot’s brilliant one-time low volley redirect.

47′ — Mertz corner connects with Augi Williams but the header goes wide right (on far post side).

First Half

HALF  — LOUDOUN 1, PITTSBURGH 0

Here are the stats — as Hounds are dominating play but Loudoun able to capitalize on their only real quality chance.

36′ — GOAL — LOUDOUN 1, PITTSBURGH 0

Zach Ryan sets up Wesley Leggett beautifully — as the Hounds are caught napping by a very well executed service and finish on the far post side.

32′ – Hounds earn 1st corner kick of the match! Mertz serves to the back post, but Loudoun heads it wide… ball eventually blocked out for a second corner.

25′ – Williams turns and shoots from inside the top corner of the box. Didn’t hit it cleanly, and it’s an easy pick-up for Fauroux in the Loudoun goal.

16′ – Ball into touch near midfield, and we have a stoppage in play for Loudoun’s Tommy McCabe to receive treatment.

12′ – Cagey opening to the match, as neither team has created anything in the way of chances. More than 2/3 of the possession with us in the early stages.
