High School soccer season has reached another level for the boys as some WPIAL teams in Class 3A, 2A and 1A began section competition on Tuesday.

Please also note that all of the Class 4A matches taking place this week are cross-section matches within the same classification, being that Class 4A boys have less teams.
In one of those matches, a battle of two teams who won a pair of matches in their respective opening week tournaments, the defending runner-up, Plum, remained unbeaten with an impressive road win, defeating North Allegheny, 1-0 in a rematch of last season’s WPIAL Class 4A semifinal. Andy Strasser scored for the Mustangs, while goalkeeper Chase Eber earned the clean sheet.
Meanwhile, in Class 2A section play, early season statement wins came from Deer Lakes, who defeated North Catholic, 3-0, to open up Section 1 play. Over the weekend, North Catholic had an impressive outing, defeating Class 4A Pine-Richland, 5-1, but the Lancers shut down the Trojan attack, while Keegan Landsberg, Colton Bish and Peyton Kushon scored. In Class 2A, Section 3, Ryan Perez scored a late game-winner with Seth Kullen picking up the assist, for Beaver, to defeat Quaker Valley, 1-0.
