Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer
FINAL: Duquesne 2, George Mason 1
Duquesne men’s soccer found themselves in a similar position as the previous two matches late on the road against George Mason on Saturday night.
After dropping tight 1-0 decisions on the road to No. 21 West Virginia and to conference leader Saint Louis, the Dukes were once again locked in a dramatic, late-game battle away from home.
But this time, Chase Brooks’ squad flipped the script.
Despite conceding a penalty kick goal in the 72nd minute to fall behind 1-0, Duquesne mounted a furious comeback against a fiery George Mason side that unravelled down the stretch.
Senior defender Ashwin Menon answered just five minutes later with a 77th-minute equalizer—his first goal of the season—to restore level terms at 1-1.
Tempers flared shortly after, with George Mason picking up red cards in both the 74th and 83rd minutes.
Capitalizing on the numerical advantage with the Patriots down to eight field players, junior defender Ofek Sasson delivered the decisive blow in the 88th minute, slotting home a strike from eight yards out into the lower corner to seal a 2-1 victory.
The late-game heroics snapped Duquesne’s two-match road slide and earned the Dukes (5W-2L-2D overall, 2W-1L-0D A10) a crucial Atlantic 10 road result.
Next up for the Dukes — they’ll host Dayton on Saturday, October 10, at Rooney Field.
