Riverhounds SC defeated the University of Akron, 1-0, in a matinee matchup on Friday at Highmark Stadium.

The Hounds trialist Nazeem Bartman found the back of the net in the 45th minute.

Bartman’s goal would prove to be enough, and the Hounds held off the Zips for the remainder of the match. The blast from Bartman came off his right foot from the top of the penalty box.

Kevin Kerr provided the Black and Gold with what was likely their best scoring chance of the second half with a free kick opportunity in the 57th minute. Kerr ripped a shot on cage, but Akron’s goalkeeper made a diving save.

In the 74th minute, midfielder Sammy Kahsai nearly added another tally, but sent a shot just wide of the net.

Goalkeeper Ben Lundgaard earned another clean sheet for the Hounds. Lundgaard has yet to allow a goal this preseason.

The Hounds will close out the weekend against Lansing Ignite FC at 12 p.m. on Sunday at Highmark Stadium. All preseason matches at Highmark Stadium are free to attend for the public.
