First Zack Steffen. Then Jordan Dover. And now, Tommy V.
Per a press release from Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, Hounds midfielder Thomas Vancaeyezeele has been called up to the French Guiana National Team ahead of 2019 CONCACAF Nations League group play.
It is Vancaeyezeele’s first-ever callup.
Vancaeyezeele, a Caen, France native, is eligible to play for French Guiana due to family ties.
His Riverhounds teammate Dover received his first international cap this summer when CONCACAF team Guyana called him up to play three matches in this summer’s Gold Cup. Former Riverhound Zack Steffen received a USMNT call up in 2016, and played in his first match in the red, white and blue in January, 2018.
There are a few others in past years too — as goalkeeper Ryan Thompson featured for the Jamaican National Team in the Reggae Boyz run to the finals and upset of USMNT in 2015.
French Guiana will begin play at 8 p.m. on Sept. 5 against Belize at Stade Municipal Dr. Edmard Lama in Cayenne, French Guiana. The team will then have a second match against St. Kitts and Nevis at 7 p.m. on Sept. 8 at Warner Park in Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis.
The 25-year-old Vancayaezeele has 24 games played (23 starts) for 2,051 minutes this season for the Hounds. He also has two goals for the club in USL Championship play.
