Robert Morris women fall to Oakland, 5-0

From Robert Morris University athletics

Robert Morris’ women’s soccer team dropped a road matchup against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Wednesday morning at the Grizz Dome, 5-0.

The loss moves RMU to on the 1-4 on the season.

The Golden Grizzlies enjoyed the majority of the possession in the first half against RMU Wednesday, pressing aggressively and forcing the Colonials to try and generate scoring chances of their own of the counter attack.

RMU managed to survive an early corner from OU as well as a shot on target from Macy Wierenga before Kaoru Hayashi produced the first good look of the game for the Colonials, firing a strike from just outside the box following a Colonial free kick.

More pressure from Oakland including two corners finally broke down the Colonial back line as Oakland managed to strike first in the 18′, going up 1-0 early after Ashley Postma’s strike beat Courtney Worstell into the upper lefthand corner of the net.

Oakland managed to maintain possession fowling the goal and eventually made it 2-0 in the 31′ after Sami Lopez collected a feed from Postma and managed to beat Worstell again to make it a 2-0 Grizz lead heading into the half.

They would make it 3-0 just five minutes into the scond half, however a determined Colonials squad continued to battle, searching for a first goal to kickstart a potential comeback.

Sheridan Reid’s volley from inside the box in the 56′ was blocked away by a Grizz defender to negate a potential scoring chance for the Colonials before a fourth goal form OU courtesy of Lopez again pushed their lead to 4-0.

They would make it 5-0 for good measure before the morning was out to wrap up the win and hand RMU a loss on the road.

The Oakland defensive formation proved challenging for the Colonials to break down as RMU was out-shot 15-5 in total as well as 8-3 in shots on goal.  Hayashi led RMU with two total shots.
