Both Pitt and Duquesne women’s soccer teams offered glimpses of what could be to come, as each earned preseason wins on Friday with impressive second half performances.

Pitt women’s soccer shut out RV Ohio State 2-0 in its final exhibition of the 2021 season Friday night at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Panthers recorded their second-straight shutout victory in Ohio, having defeated Youngstown State 2-0 as well Tuesday.

Scoreless in the first half, Anna Bout recorded the game-winning goal shortly into the second half off a pass by Landy Mertz.

The insurance goal came a few minutes later from Leah Pais off another Mertz cross.

Pitt opens the regular season against Tulsa next Thursday at 5 p.m. ET in the BancFirst Cowgirl Soccer Invitational hosted by Oklahoma State.

After trailing 1-0 at halftime to Cleveland State, Duquesne rallied for three second half goals at Rooney Field.

Junior forward Sarah Wilkinson scored twice and Lexi Kenro added a goal and an assist to lead the Dukes.

Next up for the Dukes, they’ll take on St. Francis (PA), in their season opener at Rooney Field on Sunday, August 22.

Robert Morris’ women’s team was also in action at Southpointe, where they lost 1-0 to Howard.
