Pittsburgh Soccer Weekly Planner: Women’s college season, Pittsburgh City United FC kick off seasons

It’s another busy week for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, as they play twice in a four-day span, including a first-place showdown against Tampa Bay on Wednesday. Then the Hounds will go outside the Atlantic Division to host Atlanta United 2 on Sunday at HIghmark Stadium in a match featuring the return of Robbie Mertz to Pittsburgh.

This week also marks the return of women’s college soccer season, as all three local Division I teams ramp up their seasons.

Pitt will begin the 2021 campaign by taking part in the BancFirst Cowgirl Soccer Invitational in Stillwater, Oklahoma as they’ll face Tulsa on Thursday, then turn around and play nationally ranked Oklahoma State on Sunday.

Robert Morris’ women’s team also makes its season debut on Thursday, traveling to Baltimore, Maryland, to take on UMBC.  They’ll play two days later on Saturday in Emmitsburg, MD, facing Mt. Saint Mary’s.

Duquesne women make their debut on Sunday, as they host St. Francis (PA), at 2 p.m. at Rooney Field.

Robert Morris, Pitt and Duquesne men’s teams will also continue with exhibition matches.  While Pitt and Robert Morris are each on the road, Duquesne will host California University of PA at 11 a.m. at Rooney Field on Sunday, prior to the women’s home opener.

Finally, making their debut will be Pittsburgh City United FC in UPSL play.  The new club will also be traveling to Maryland, as they face Inter Atlantic on Saturday (time TBA).
