The USL Championship continued its tradition of announcing home opening matches for all of its clubs on Wednesday, as the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC revealed they’ll be opening its season on the road, at Birmingham Legion FC, then returning for its home opener on Friday, March 24, at 7 p.m. vs Miami FC.

The league will reveal the full USL Championship and 34-game Riverhounds schedule on Monday, Jan. 9.

The match against Birmingham is a rematch of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal, where Pittsburgh advanced on penalty kicks on Oct. 23, 2022.

This is also the 11th home opener at Highmark Stadium, which opened in 2013, and the 24th overall. The Riverhounds defeated Miami at Highmark Stadium on July 9, 2022 in a 4-1 drubbing. This is also the third Friday night game at home for the Riverhounds since the start of the 2019 season.

Riverhounds SC President Jeff Garner told Pittsburgh Soccer Now’s John Krysinsky on Sounding Off on Soccer, that the club will likely be playing a lot more games on the road early in the season, which would not be unusual.
