Sounding Off on Soccer: Breaking down Riverhounds vs Tampa Bay top of table showdown with Devon Kerr

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC have been in first place in the USL Championship’s Eastern Conference since early June, but with two matches remaining in the regular season, they have a golden opportunity to finish on top of the standings, both in conference and in the league’s overall points race, which team is awarded the Players Shield.

However, the biggest obstacle standing in their way, is second place Tampa Bay Rowdies, who’ve — for the most part — have kept pace with Pittsburgh since dropping a 1-0 result in August in the only other meeting between the clubs this season.

In the penultimate match of the season, the two sides will now meet at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, with a lot at stake.  Kickoff will be 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night.

To preview one of the biggest regular season matches in the history of the Riverhounds’ franchise (as outlined in Hounds Notebook earlier this week), USL Championship (and MLS/NCAA) soccer analyst Devon Kerr, a recurring contributor to Sounding Off on Soccer podcast, joins John Krysinsky on the pod.
