In his 28th season of coaching girls soccer, Moon’s Bill Pfeifer became the first coach to ever reach 500 wins on Wednesday, as Moon defeated Blackhawk, 3-0.  Elizabeth Gallup and Lilly Snyder each scored to keep Moon ahead in its race to finish atop its section, with Montour hot on their heels.  Moon (11-1-2, 8-1-2) goalkeeper Serayah Leech posted another clean sheet in her impressive record.

On Wednesday, numerous WPIAL girls soccer team clinched Section Titles, including Plum, who were challenged by Franklin Regional, and pushed to extra time, where Ava Weleski’s penalty kick finish provided the Golden Goal.

Mount Pleasant rolled to a 6-0 win vs its next closest competitor in Class 2A, Section 3, to make its case to be a top overall seed in the Class 2A playoffs.

South Park sealed the deal in Class 2A, Section 4, by defeating Keystone Oaks, 5-0.

In Class 1A, both Riverview and Winchester Thurston clinched their respective section titles.  Winchester Thurston won a hard-fought battle with Our Lady of Sacred Heart, 1-0, while Pitt commit Lola Abraham scored four goals in leading Riverview to an impressive 4-0 win vs Greensburg Central Catholic,

Meanwhile, in Class 4A, Section 2, Upper St. Clair took the lead in the race to first with a 2-0 win vs Peters Township, 2-0.  Maeryn Mannox and Serra Dupre scored for the Panthers while goalkeeper Cam Friday secured her 14th clean sheet of the season.  The win gives Upper St. Clair a half-game lead in the race for the section title. The Panthers (14-1, 12-1) close out their section schedule at Norwin on Monday. Peters Township (13-1-1, 11-1-1) finishes at home Monday against Hempfield.

John Krysinsky has covered soccer and other sports for many years for various publications and media outlets. He is also author of 'Miracle on the Mon' -- a book about the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, which chronicles the club, particularly the early years of Highmark Stadium with the narrative leading up to and centered around a remarkable match that helped provide a spark for the franchise. John has covered sports for Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, DK Pittsburgh Sports, Pittsburgh Sports Report, has served as color commentator on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC broadcasts, and worked with OPTA Stats and broadcast teams for US Open Cup and International Champions Cup matches held in the US. Krysinsky also served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at his alma mater, Point Park University, where he led the Pioneers to the first-ever winning seasons and playoff berths (1996-98); head coach of North Catholic boys (2007-08), associate head coach of Shady Side Academy boys (2009-2014).
