Match To Watch

Class 4A — Penn-Trafford vs Norwin — This is a battle of a pre-existing neighboring rivals who will meet twice a season again, as they’ve ascended to the top of the re-formed Section 1 early this campaign.  You have to go back a few years since they were battling for Section supremacy because Penn-Trafford was in Class 3A the previous two seasons, while Norwin was making regular trips down the South Hills as part of an expanded section with teams like Peters Township, Canon-McMillan, Upper St Clair and Mt. Lebanon.  Since their first two losses of the season (to USC and Peters), Penn-Trafford (5-2-0 overall, 3-0-0 in section) has reeled off five consecutive wins, including an impressive 3-2 road win at Latrobe. In that match, it was a freshman, Tori Yurt, who came through with a pair of goals.  The Warriors also have solid senior leadership from goalkeeper Rease Solomon, a Robert Morris commit who comes into this match having posted two straight clean sheets,   Meanwhile, Norwin (3-4-0 overall  has not shied away from playing the toughest competition in playing out of section, while their lone loss came against a tough Latrobe side. With a new coach (Ashley DeVito), the Knights have their share of upperclassman powering their efforts to not only return to the WPIAL playoffs, but contend for a Section title.  Leading the attack, the Knights have Julia Bursick, a Duquesne commit, while the backline features seniors Jackie Weber and Lilah North, along with juniors Alexa Kobus and Cameryn Reed, along with junior Rebecca Kostrobala in goal.
