Match Day Notes

  • Only a few section matches today in Class 3A and Class 2A (Section 2)
    • Moon (12-0-0, 7-0-0 in section) looks to keep its perfect record as they travel across the Allegheny to face Ambridge.
    • It’s all hands on deck in 2A Section 2 with all eight teams in action. In what’s turning out to be a three-team race for the section title, Central Valley creeped ahead of Quaker Valley and Avonworth on Thursday as the latter two schools played to a nil-nil draw while CV edged Keystone Oaks, 1-0.
  • A couple of interesting non-conference, cross-classification matches today which could have some impact on the WPIAL playoff seedings include:
    • Plum at Franklin Regional — Unbeaten in their first season back in Class 4A, Plum (10-0-2, 6-0-0 in section) will face long time rival Franklin Regional for the first time in a while as these schools are not longer in same section. FR (6-2-0, 5-1-0 in section) remain in Class 3A where they’re in a battle with Latrobe for their section top spot.
    • Hampton at North Allegheny — This 3A vs 4A match features two of the better defensive sides across the WPIAL.  Hampton (6-1-3, 4-1-3 in section) have still only allowed one goal all season, but have played to three scoreless draws thus far in section, and only loss came vs Indiana (1-0 obviously).  NA (8-2-1, 4-1-0 in section) is riding a five-match win streak as they battle Fox Chapel at the top of ultra-competitive Class 4A, Section 3 race.
  • Who’s still unbeaten:
    • Class 4A – Plum, Peters Township (6-0-0 in section)
    • Class 3A
      • Moon (12-0-0 overall, 7-0-0 in section)
    • Class 2A
      • Charleroi (10-0-0 overall, 9-0-0 in section)
      • South Park (10-1-1 overall, 8-0-1 in section)
      • Elizabeth Forward (7-2-1 overall, 7-0-1 in section)
    • Class 1A
      • Bentworth (9-0-0 overall, 4-0-0 in section)
      • Winchester Thurston (5-2-1 overall, 4-0-1 in section)
