Match Day Notes

  • It’s all non-section matches across the district for WPIAL girls soccer teams on this Saturday.
  • Here are the teams who remain unbeaten in WPIAL girls soccer:
    • Class 4A  – Peters Township (9-0-1 overall, 4-0-1 in section; Penn-Trafford (6-0-0 in section); Seneca Valley (6-0-0 in section)
    • Class 3A – Fox Chapel (9-0-1 overall, 7-0-0 in section); Moon (7-0-0 in section); South Fayette (5-0-0 in section); Plum (8-0-0 in section)
    • Class 2A – South Park (8-0-0 in section); North Catholic (10-0-0 overall, 5-0-0 in section); Beaver Area (10-0-0 overall, 6-0-0 in section); Mt. Pleasant (6-0-0 in section)
    • Class 1A – Springdale (9-0-0 overall, 8-0-0 in section); Seton LaSalle (7-0-1 in section)
  • Saturday’s Matches To Watch:
    • Springdale (1A) vs Burrell (2A) — This is a good out of section, cross-classification test for both teams.  Springdale has risen to the top of Class 1A competition thus far this season, and with a win here vs a 2A contender, they can likely take a big step in section No. 1 overall seed for the WPIAL playoffs.  The Dynamo have been perfect this seson to this point, thanks to a handful of seniors who’ve led the way, including Hailey Marchlewski, Briana Ross and Molly Hurley, who were part of the WPIAL runner-up team in 2022.  Burrell are contending in a tough Class 2A, Section 2, which includes North Catholic, Freeport and Shady Side. Burrell already has a few impressive non-section wins, including beating South Park, Winchester Thurston and they played Class 4A Mt. Lebanon to a 1-1 draw. The Bucs are led by all-WPIAL midfielder Miley Kariotis, a Slippery Rock commit, and sophomore Makiah Buchak has emerged as a goal scoring threat.
    • Thomas Jefferson (3A) vs South Park (2A) — Another good cross-section contest between two teams who are WPIAL title contenders in their respective classifcations.  Credit to the Jaguars (6-4-0, 5-1-0 in section), who are playing a tough non-section schedule (have already played Peters Township, Upper St. Clair and Franklin Regional and Moon) with varying results.  South Park (8-4-0, 8-0-0 in section) are the front runners in their section, but also have played a strong out of conference schedule.  A positive result here could help boost their playoff seeding.
