RMU women’s soccer team secured a 1-1 draw against IU Indy after a second-half goal by Paloma Swankler.
ith the result, the Colonials now hold a 3-4-4 overall record and a 2-1-1 standing in Horizon League play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Jaguars struck early, scoring within the first five minutes. Caroline Kelley netted her fifth goal of the season after several blocked shots, with Avery Bangert providing the assist.
RMU responded with offensive pressure, generating three shots on goal and earning nine corner kicks, but they were unable to find the equalizer in the first half.
RMU capitalized on their 10th corner kick of the game in the 66th minute. Off a cross from Ava Trethewey, Paloma Swankler headed the ball into the net, tying the game at 1-1.
At the 78th minute, defender Shauna Gamble was issued a yellow card.
The Colonials pushed for a winner, adding three more shots on target, but couldn’t convert a second goal.
RMU W MATCH NOTES
- IU Indy registered 17 shots with five on goal, while RMU recorded 14 shots, eight of which were on target.
- The Colonials dominated in corner kicks with 13 compared to the Jaguars’ three.
- Both teams committed nine fouls each. Key contributors who played the full 90 minutes included Emerson Johngarlo, Jillian Marvin, Shauna Gamble, Taylor Day, Ava Trethewey, Julia Becerra, Haleigh Finale, and Paloma Swankler.
- Midfielder Carson Bogan made her second career start, logging 40 minutes. Senior goalkeeper Brenna Murray made four saves in the match.
- For the second consecutive game, Swankler and Trethewey combined for an RMU goal.
- Swankler’s fourth goal of the season is tied for the team-lead, while Trethewey’s assist was her third, making her the team’s leader in assists. Swankler also tops the team with 10 points (4g, 2a).
