In December, the Duquesne Women’s Soccer Team officially announced that Jessica Giegucz will be the team’s head coach, taking over for Al Alvine and Dave Gray following the former stepping away to deal with a personal matter.
Giegucz has now had a few months under her belt, to develop all on and off field adjustments, all in an effort to strengthen the Dukes.
“So having the ability to have players who are interested and willing to help a new staff come in and learn some of the new things we didn’t know and on top of that learning new things they didn’t know as well,” she exclusively told PSN. “It is already a fun relationship that has started, and they’ve done really well in many regards.”
Earlier Duquesne completed its spring season where it could see how the playing style looked against opposing teams, with that knowledge being taken into the summer.
“One of the biggest things is the experience on the team has really helped that process move really quickly,” stated Giegucz. “It is a little bit of a different style that I am asking for the team to play. I’ve been more than impressed by how quickly they’ve picked it up and I didn’t expect them to pick it up as quickly as they have been but more importantly every single practice and game, they’ve made progress and that has been a focus.
“I think the biggest piece I was really honing in on early was the defending, how we were going to put pressure on and what that would look like and they picked it up in a very organized fashion which is great but a credit to what was already here before. They tweaked a couple of things and did a really good job picking that up.”
Giegucz spoke to PSN’s Zachary Weiss and the entire interview is recorded below for your listening pleasure.
