It’s rare that a match that has a lot of build up and excitement often lives up to the hype.

When Pittsburgh Riveters SC and Steel City FC finally met on the pitch, a large crowd congreagated at Founders Field in Cheswick got to see some high-level Women’s soccer being played between two rosters brimming with homegrown, Pittsburgh-area female soccer talent.

The Riveters’ stronger start was the difference in the match, as things swumg back and forth, the Riveters made the most of their chances.

Steel City made a strong second half push, but a late counterattack led by one of the veteran players in the match, put the match away for good.

With the win, Riveters (4W-1L-2D, 14 points) now have a leg up in the USL W League’s Great Forest Division standings, ahead of Steel City (2W-1L-2D, 8 points) and Cleveland (8 points).

PSN’s Colton Coreschi was at Founders reporting on the action and filed the match report below along with catching reaction from both coaches, Riveters SC’s Scott Gibson and Steel City FC’s Tom Ovenden (see below for excerpts).
