Miami stun Riverhounds with three 2nd half goals

FINAL: The Miami FC 3, Riverhounds SC 1

Match Stats

In a tale of two halves, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC came apart in the final 45 minutes, dropping its road match to The Miami FC, 3-1, at Pitbull Stadium on Saturday night.

Things started off swimmingly for the Hounds, with Charles Ahl scoring a first half goal on the road for the third time this season, in the 22nd minutes.

Despite being outshot 15-1 (4-0 on target) in the first half, Miami tilted the match on its head with a quick brace from Tobías Zarate within a 10-minute span early in the second half, then an added an insurance goal Allen Gavilanes.

In the 47th minute, Zarate made a few nifty moves with back to goal, before finding enough room to thread a well-placed low shot just inside the right post, catching Hounds goalkeeper Jacob Randolph off guard.

Zarate was the beneficiary of Miami’s effective high press in the 59th minute, drilling home a shot into the upper left corner.

With the Hounds pushing for the equalizer, Miami took advantage, with Gavilanes, who came on as a late sub, taking a touch from a looping pass, then driving a low, left-footed shot through the goal box and into the right side past Randolph.

With the loss, the Riverhounds remain held at 37 points, still trailing the teams right in front of them, as North Carolina FC (41 points), Loudoun United FC (39 points) each lost, while Hartford (38 points) competed in the Jägermeister Cup Final.
