United Soccer League today unveiled the schedule for the 2026 USL W League season — which includes two local clubs, Riveters SC and Steel City FC.
Pittsburgh pre-professional clubs with rosters made up mostly of current college players along with top academy prospects will renew acquaintances again this season with a pair of match-ups.
Twice last season, the Riveters and Steel City FC gave Pittsburgh soccer fans a rare glimpse of how special and unique a local derby can be, especially with added significance of playing for division title honors and a postseason berth. Down to the last few weeks of the season with the standings still in flux, there was plenty of scoreboard watching too between the two clubs and its supporters.
This year, they’ll play the first of two matches on May 28, the teams will meet at Founders Field (6 p.m.) then the return match will be played at Highmark Stadium on June 27 (7 p.m.)
The Riveters will be out to defend the Great Forest Division title in their second season of women’s soccer competition, which begins exactly one year to the day after the team’s inaugural match.
FC Buffalo will provide the opponent in the opener, a 7 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, May 16 at Highmark Stadium.
Ironically, Steel City FC, will be kicking off its 2026 campaign a week later, will also face FC Buffalo, in Western NY, on May 22.
Each team will play 10 matches, in home and away series against other regional, divisional opponents which include FC Buffalo,
