Weekend Match Recaps (Oct. 16–18)
Men’s Division I
-
Robert Morris 3, Northern Kentucky 1: The Colonials pulled off a massive Horizon League road victory. After entering halftime level, second-half strikes from Matthew Eckersall and Aiden Bernklau-Wostl pushed RMU ahead, while star keeper Josh Lane delivered the play of the match with a clutch late penalty kick save to secure all three points.
-
Duquesne 3, Davidson 0: Chase Brooks’ Dukes rebounded in emphatic style on Rooney Field, posting a clean-sheet victory over Davidson behind a clinical three-goal performance to keep their pursuit of a top Atlantic 10 seed firmly on track. Zac Weiss was there and filed this match report and takeways. If you also get a chance, check out Zac’s post match interviews:
-
North Carolina 1, #10 Pitt 0: In a tightly contested ACC showdown at Ambrose Urbanic Field, the Panthers conceded an early second-half tally to the #11 Tar Heels. Despite a furious late pressing surge, Pitt couldn’t break through for an equalizer. The Panthers were without a number of key players in the lineup, including Anders Bordoy, Caden Grabfelder and Logan Oliver on Friday.
Short-Handed & Stifled: No. 7 Pitt’s unbeaten run snapped in 1-0 loss to relentless North Carolina
Women’s Division I
-
#24 Florida State 2, Pitt 1: Ben Waldrum’s Panthers proved once again they will go toe-to-toe with anyone in the country. Trailing 2-0 late against the national powerhouse Seminoles, Sofia Doheny netted an 81st-minute goal to spark a thrilling rally. Equalizing attempts from Talyn Guthrie and Lola Abraham in the final minutes fell just inches short of securing a point. Adding to the loss, Pitt’s Katie Zailski, a key contributor the past four plus years as part of the 2022 and 2023 teams that made it to the NCAA tournament but had to miss all of last season, suffered an ACL injury in training last, ending an outstanding college career that included 77 appearances (75 starts), over 6,300 minutes played, six goals and aforementioned NCAA Tournament appearances (Sweet 16 and Elite Eight).
-
Milwaukee 5, Robert Morris 1: RMU battled fiercely through an intense first 45 minutes on the road. Fiona Fraser buried a late first-half equalizer—off freshman Morgan Gesinski’s first career collegiate assist—to send the teams to the break tied 1-1. However, league-leading Milwaukee erupted for four unanswered second-half goals to pull away, despite a heroic 11-save effort from senior keeper Emma Cameron.
-
Loyola Chicago 2, Duquesne 0: The Dukes held the Ramblers to a scoreless draw through a physical first half in Chicago before the hosts managed to break through twice in the second half.

🗓️ Week Ahead Preview
Pitt Panthers
-
Men’s Soccer: Tonight is a marquee event and final big non-conference contest for Pitt. Jay Vidovich’s Panthers host #3 Georgetown at Ambrose Urbanic Field at 7:00 PM (ACCNX). A win tonight would be a massive resume booster for Pitt’s national seed aspirations. Looking ahead to the ACC stretch run, Pitt finishes conference play with back-to-back Friday night road tests: first at Boston College this Friday (Oct. 23), followed by the regular-season finale at Virginia on Friday, October 30. Max points are vital to secure a top-four ACC Tournament bye.
-
Women’s Soccer: After taking national power Florida State to the wire, Pitt women looks to turn high-level performances into late-season results as they navigate the closing stretch of the ACC calendar — as they won’t play again until they host No. 4 Wake Forest (Oct 30), then complete their season at SMU the following week.
Duquesne Dukes
-
Men’s Soccer: Sitting in 3rd place in the A-10 with 12 points (4-1-0), Chase Brooks’ squad is right in the thick of the regular-season title race. Stacking points over these next two weeks is crucial to lock down hosting rights for the A-10 Quarterfinals on Rooney Field. They have mid-week trip to Western New York to take on St. Bonaventure on Wednesday, then home to host VCU at Rooney Field on Saturday.
-
Women’s Soccer: Hovering in 9th place with 8 points, the Dukes sit just one point behind George Washington for the 8th and final A-10 Tournament berth. Every remaining match is essentially a knockout fixture as they have back-to-back home matches vs Davidson and Saint Louis.
Robert Morris Colonials
-
Men’s Soccer: Resting in 7th place (but only have one loss — with 10 points) after their clutch 3-1 win at NKU, Jonathan Potter’s Colonials will need to keep playing at a high level to get in inside the Horizon League tournament cutoff window.
-
Women’s Soccer: Tied for 9th place with 8 points, the Colonials sit just two points behind Northern Illinois and will have to look to channel their tough first-half effort against Milwaukee into a late-season point run.
