Snapshot of DI College Weekend Action

Here’s a snapshot at the three local Division I soccer schools — as all six men’s and women’s teams will be in action this weekend:

PITT MEN

Pitt (2-9-2, 0-4-1 ACC) vs NC State (3-9-0, 0-5-0 ACC)

Saturday, Oct. 15 –  7 p.m. – Dail Soccer Field/Track Complex, Raleigh, NC  (LIVE STREAM)

Maybe this is the game where Pitt can pick up it’s first-ever ACC win — as they travel to Raleigh, NC, to take on another team that has yet to win in conference this season, North Carolina State.
Here’s a few reasons to believe:

• The teams last met in 2014 in a 1-1 double overtime draw in Pittsburgh.
• Pitt head coach Jay Vidovich is 17-2-2, in his years with Wake Forest, all-time against NC State.
• The Wolfpack lead the all-time series 2-1-1.

PITT WOMEN 

Pitt (2-11-1, 1-5 ACC) vs Syracuse (7-5-3, 0-4-2 ACC)
Sunday, Oct. 16 – 1 p.m. – Syracuse, NY
After a 2OT victory over Miami last week — which was its first ACC win of the season — the Pitt women will now head on the road to Central New York to take on long-time rivals, Syracuse, with a legitimate chance to extend their streak to two games.
In last year’s meeting, junior midfielder Hanna Hannesdottir scored the game-winning goal for the Panthers in the 99th minute to beat the Orange, 1-0, off a penalty kick.

DUQUESNE MEN

Duquesne (6-3-3, 1-1-1) vs VCU (4-5-3, 2-0-1)
Saturday, Oct. 15 – 1 p.m. – Rooney Field – LIVE STREAM – A-10 Digital Network (free)
Chase Brooks’ squad will be glad to return home, after losing for the first time in over a month in a mid-week loss to defending Atlantic 10 champs – Fordham by a score of 5-0.
The Dukes, who ran an impressive seven game unbeaten and shutout streak, are undefeated at home (5-0-1).  VCU are a solid A-10 opponent, going 3-0-3 in its past six matches and sit in front of the Dukes in the conference standings.
 

DUQUESNE WOMEN

Duquesne (9-3-2, 5-0-0) vs Saint Joseph’s (11-1-2, 4-0-1 A-10)
Sunday, Oct .16 – 1 p.m. – Rooney Field
The red-hot Dukes are coming off an OT win on Thursday night, as Abby Losco scored the game winner in the 99th minute, to keep them alone at the top of the Atlantic 10 standings heading into a showdown with a strong St. Joe’s s team.

“I was happy with our focus and our ability to execute our game plan. A-10 road wins are tough to come by, and getting thee points on the road against a very good Mason team is a big result, especially heading into our game against Saint Joseph’s on Sunday,” said Al Alvine, Duquesne Head Coach.

NOTE: With the win, Alvine surpasses Tim Zundel and moves into second place on Duquesne all-time victory total with 38.
 

ROBERT MORRIS MEN

Robert Morris (3-6-2, 0-1-1 NEC) were in action on Friday afternoon against LIU-Brooklyn in its first Northeast Conference home game.   After trailing early, Zac Sherman put the Colonials came back with the game’s equalizer, with an opportunistic rebound from a free kick halfway through the 1st half.
 

Unfortunately for the Colonials, LIU stormed back to score a pair of second half goals –and Bobby Mo was handed its first NEC loss of the season at the North Athletic Complex in Moon on Friday.
RMU will have a chance to bounce back and try to get its first conference win of the season in a NEC match-up vs St. Francis (NY) on Sunday, at 1 p.m.   (LIVE FEED)

ROBERT MORRIS WOMEN 

The Robert Morris women (3-11-0, 1-3 NEC) finally ended a 5-game losing streak on Friday, beating LIU-Brooklyn, 1-0, as Jane Schleicher (Montour) scored the game’s lone goal.

Like the men, the Bobby Mo women will return to action on Sunday, traveling to Maryland to take on conference foe, Mt. St. Mary’s
