The entire Western Pennsylvania soccer community is grieving the devastating loss of Karoline Heintz. A recent Peters Township High School graduate and freshman defender for the PennWest California Vulcans,

• Coach Tyler Hamstra: Former coach Tyler Hamstra shared a deeply moving message reflecting on her character:

• “If the world had several Karolines it would be a much more caring and loyal place. She was who we should all strive to be. A little happier, a little more positive, and a lot more kind.”

• PennWest California Athletics: Vulcans Head Coach Pete Curtis called Karoline a “sweet, beautiful soul” who left a positive impact on everyone around her. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) will observe moments of silence across all conference athletic events through early September in her honor.

Rallying Support & Preserving Her Legacy

Two GoFundMe campaigns have surpassed $40,000 to assist the Heintz family and help create a lasting memorial.

• Moe Rosensteel Scholarship Foundation: The Kaitlyn Moe Rosensteel Scholarship Foundation has actively amplified the primary fundraiser, “In Memory of Karoline Heintz: Building a Legacy of Hope,” to stand alongside the Heintz family as they establish a tribute in her honor.

• In memory of Karoline, California Athletics and California Women’s Soccer have partnered with BeeGraphix on a t-shirt fundraiser benefiting Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Additionally, the PSAC will observe a moment of silence at conference events from Aug. 27 through Sept. 3 in memory

John Krysinsky

John Krysinsky has covered soccer and other sports for many years for various publications and media outlets. He is also author of 'Miracle on the Mon' -- a book about the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, which chronicles the club, particularly the early years of Highmark Stadium with the narrative leading up to and centered around a remarkable match that helped provide a spark for the franchise. John has covered sports for Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, DK Pittsburgh Sports, Pittsburgh Sports Report, has served as color commentator on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC broadcasts, and worked with OPTA Stats and broadcast teams for US Open Cup and International Champions Cup matches held in the US. Krysinsky also served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at his alma mater, Point Park University, where he led the Pioneers to the first-ever winning seasons and playoff berths (1996-98); head coach of North Catholic boys (2007-08), associate head coach of Shady Side Academy boys (2009-2014).
