This Week in #PghSoccer: @FtPittRegiment, @SteelCityFC Open Home Schedules + #KeystoneDerby Pt 2

Here’s a new feature here on Pittsburgh Soccer Report, I will take a snapshot look at some of the key games and events coming up each week.    Most likely, this will be posted every Sunday or Monday.
On Wednesday, all three local teams of note will be in action, and then it’s going to be a very, very quiet Memorial Day weekend for local soccer.
STEEL CITY FC
Steel City FC women’s team opened up its 2017 campaign on the road last weekend, shutting out the Michigan Lions on Saturday, 2-0, then knocking off FC Indiana, 5-4 in a high-scoring, back-and-forth battle to get off to a rousing 2-0 start to its 2017 campaign.
The ladies will return to Pittsburgh to look to go to 3-0 with a home tilt against the Cleveland Ambassadors at Shady Side Academy on Wednesday evening.
This week includes the opening of the season for NPSL’s Fort Pitt Regiment, who return to action after a one-year hiatus on Wednesday.
Last month, I spoke with team coach John Kowalski as part of this write-up on the squad mostly made up of current and recent college players.  Former Riverhounds players Brendan Alfery, Nick Kolarac and Anthony Virgara are among the players on the Ft. Pitt Roster.
CoreyThe Riverhounds (4-4-2, 14 points, 4th place in USL’s Eastern Conference) will try to bounce back after a 1-0 loss to Louisville City, as they travel to Harrisburg for the second of three matches this year against in-state Keystone Derby rivals City Islanders.
The Hounds beat Harrisburg 1-0 on April 29, so with a win on Wednesday, the Hounds can take the Keystone Derby Cup away from the City Islanders.  I’ll have more on this game posted late Tuesday/early Wednesday.
Also, for good measure, the Tartan Devils Oak Avalon, amateurs that made a run to the second round of the U.S. Open Cup, will be playing in Keystone Cup match against another local team, Seleccion Latina at Cupples Stadium on Wednesday,

So, yes, it’s a busy Wednesday in Pittsburgh soccer.
