Gameday Updates

Final – Hounds win 1-0. A well played game. Still would like to see another goal or two but a win none the less. Matt Gajtka will be writing up the full game recap. Should have a post game video with him soon as well.

90′ – 3 minutes of stoppage time added. Was predicted perfectly by Matt Gajtka.

79′ – Big left footed shot from Dixon just stopped by Fordah. Hounds showing a burst once Velarde, Williamson and Perez entered the match.

77′ – Kimarni Smith gets a yellow card for his hard tackle on Perez.

75′ – Ferrin with a good free kick chance saved again by Vitiello. I think the Hounds are getting tired out there so Lilley finally makes some subs.

Perez, Williamson and Velarde on for Cicerone, Dikwa and Wharton.

73′ – Final sub for Loudoun is Tyler Gabarra on for Allexon Saravia at right back.

70′ – Paz with another shot on net for Loudoun. This one much tougher to stop but Vitiello is there again.

68′ – Daniel Rovira now gets a yellow card.

63′ – Darluis Paz with what I think is the first shot on goal for Loudoun. Easy save right to the hands of Vitiello.

61′ – Loudoun make four subs in this half so far. Ferrin, Paz, Smith and Greene are on for Di Rosa, Gamble, Garay and Landry. Switching out a tired midfield.

58′ – Dikwa goes for the bicycle kick once again. I think that’s the fifth time he’s done that this season. He’ll get it eventually.

55′ – Loudoun’s indirect free kick in the box is blocked out by Danny Griffin. Biggest chance so far for Loudoun. Hounds remain up 1-0.

52′ – Another sneaky pass from Forbes to Dixon. Cicerone almost connects on Dixon’s cross. Great touches from Dixon and Forbes tonight. Looking great on the ball.

49′ – Forbes makes an unbelievable through ball pass. Split it between three guys across the field to Cicerone. There’s a reason Forbes is in the top 5 in chances created and eighth in crosses made in the USL.

45′ – Second half begins. Doesn’t look like any subs yet.

Half – Riverhounds play a very solid half. Only give up 1 shot and none on goal. Players are passing very well. Let’s see if they can add another goal or two because that’s what Bob will want to see.

45′ – Just 1 minute of stoppage time added.

41′ – Dixon hits the post!! Cicerone sets him up with a pass across the box. Great chance but no goal.

Allexon Saravia on Loudoun given a yellow card for his foul on Rovira.

38′ – Vitiello comes out of his net. Ball gets past him but Wiedt clears it out.

36′ – Allexon Saravira fails to clear a ball. Skips off his head for a corner. Hounds almost convert off a shot from Dixon low and hard, 30 yards out.

32′ – Rovira making some great touches on the left side. Corner kick now for the Hounds is played short… Wharton chips a shot over the net.

25′ – Kairou Amoustapha on Loudoun smashes Kilwien into Vitiello inside the box. That’s called a foul.

22′ – Wharton with a great pass to Dikwa 40 yards out. Right on his foot, but called offside. Wharton having a great game season so far.

18′ – The play has officially been called a goal for Cicerone and assist for Dikwa. Cicerone has a career high 6 goals now, and Dikwa earns his third assist.

14′ – Rain is back in Pittsburgh. Ball is skipping real fast out there. Hounds clearly dominating so far.

7′ – Riverhounds score early!! It was Wharton who made it happen. A brilliant pass in the box to Dixon crosses it over and Dikwa’s shot finds its way in. 1-0 Hounds

3′ – Kenardo Forbes officially plays in his 100th game for the Riverhounds tonight. He’s the all-time assists leader in the USL with 41 and is tied with the team record with 27 assists along with David Flavius. Could break the organizations record tonight.

1′ – Game begins! Hopefully no big rain tonight for the fans and no lighting delays.

Might as well mention the Riverhounds academy team wins its first game ever 2-0 today at Highmark Stadium. Game was delayed for an hour due to rain. The main squad tonight looks to add the second win of the day for the organization.

Look for the starting lineups and in-game updates to be posted here throughout the evening — along with post game reaction.

Here’s Mark Goodman’s scouting report and preview of Saturday’s match up…

Preview: Revenge against Loudoun?

Preview

For the third time this season, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC will face Loudoun United FC in an Atlantic Division battle.

This time, however, the Hounds will get to play host, as the teams meet at 7 p.m. Saturday at Highmark Stadium after playing the first two matches in Virginia. The game will be televised on 22 The Point and streamed via ESPN+.

Loudoun (2-9-0) got the better of the Hounds (6-4-3) for the first time in three years of matchups in the last meeting on June 30. Louis Pérez scored his first professional goal for the Hounds, but it wasn’t enough, as goals by Ted Ku-DiPietro and Jovanny Bolívar gave Loudoun the 2-1 win after six consecutive losses to the Hounds.

The Hounds did take a 3-2 win in the first meeting with Loudoun on June 2, and the loss in the most recent match is the Hounds’ only loss in the past seven matches, a stretch in which the team has gone 4-1-2.

With 10 days since their previous matchup, the Hounds will come in rested, though they are somewhat shorthanded with four players — Jordan Dover (lower body), Josh Gatt (knee), Jelani Peters (international duty) and Mekeil Williams (international duty) — all ruled out. With three of the missing players being defenders, there is a better-than-fair chance Tom Judge, the 36th pick in this year’s MLS SuperDraft who joined the team last week on loan from Nashville SC, will have his name on the team sheet.

Loudoun, meanwhile, played at home on Sunday, when they fell 4-1 to Miami FC. That game was closer than the final score indicated, as Loudoun missed a first-half penalty that would have tied the game, and the score remained 1-0 until the 70th minute.
