Head Coach Chris Shaw Leaves RMU Women for Temple

Chris Shaw

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — RMU Vice President and Director of Athletics Chris King has announced Thursday that women’s soccer head coach Chris Shaw will depart from the university after accepting the head coaching position at Temple.

“We want to thank Coach Shaw for his dedication and service to RMU,” said King. “Chris was my first head coach hire at RMU and he has made an impact within our department and for our women’s soccer program over the past four years, including a program record in wins this past year. We understand and respect his decision, and we wish him continued success personally and professionally at Temple University.”

In his four seasons at RMU, Shaw led the Colonials to 26 victories, including a program record 12 wins in 2023. This past season also saw RMU earn its first-ever Horizon League Tournament victory in its 4-1 win over Wright State while improving from five points to 16 in the league standings from 2022.

“I have truly enjoyed my time as a Colonial,” said Shaw. “I’d like to thank Chris King for the opportunity and look forward to the continued success of the women’s soccer program at RMU. Although I am excited for this new opportunity, I am sad to leave RMU and will miss the players and my coworkers.”

During Shaw’s tenure, six student-athletes received Horizon All-League honors a total of 10 times. Additionally, Kaoru Hayashi became RMU’s first student-athlete in program history to garner United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American honors as well as the first Colonial to be named Horizon League First Team All-Conference.

“The women’s soccer program has tremendous potential in the Horizon League next season,” added King. “Our focus will be on our student-athletes as we begin a national search to find the best coaching leader to deliver a championship-level experience for our student-athletes and to continue the positive momentum of our women’s soccer program.”

A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
