Paloma Swankler’s late super strike secures Robert Morris’ 1-1 draw vs Dartmouth

It came down to the late stages of the match to find the equalizer from Paloma Swankler, remaining helped Robert Morris women’s soccer team secure a 1-1 draw against Dartmouth.

With this result, RMU concludes its non-conference schedule with a 1-3-3 record.

How It Happened

In the opening 13 minutes, both teams exchanged early chances, each registering three shots.

Dartmouth began to settle in the remainder of the half, outshooting RMU 9-1.

Goalkeeper Brenna Murray made four crucial saves in the first half to keep the score level.

In the 50th minute, Dartmouth was awarded a penalty kick after a handball by RMU in the box. Hailey Rorick converted the penalty, placing the ball into the left-side panel for her first goal of the season.

Despite continued pressure from Dartmouth, Murray stood tall, making six additional saves to keep the deficit at one. In the 73rd and 74th minutes, RMU’s Carson Bogan and Emily Rocco each received yellow cards.

With just six minutes left in the match, Bogan connected with Morgan Guelas, who found Swankler.

The Norwin High School alum dribbled past a defender and unleashed a shot from 30 yards out, finding the top-left corner to level the score.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Dartmouth led with 21 total shots, 12 of which were on target, compared to RMU’s eight shots, three of which were on goal. Dartmouth also held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Murray had a standout performance in net, recording a career-high 10 saves. Defenders Shauna GambleJillian MarvinEmerson Johngarlo, and midfielder Taylor Day each played all 90 minutes.

SWANKLER’S SNIPE

Swankler’s late equalizer from distance was her third goal of the season, leading the team. The junior forward from Irwin, Pa., now owns seven career goals.

UP NEXT

With non-conference play concluded, RMU now shifts focus to Horizon League action.

The Colonials will kick off their conference schedule on the road against Oakland on Thursday, September 19 at 5:00 PM.
