WPIAL Boys Soccer Schedule (9/10/2024)

It’s a full schedule for high school boys soccer — as WPIAL section competition heats up on Tuesday.

Here’s a couple matches we’ll be watching closely:

Class 4A — Fox Chapel vs Seneca Valley — in the past half decade Seneca Valley boys soccer team has always set a high standard. Early this season, that’s the case again.  The Raiders (5-1-0, 1-0-0) started this season playing against some of the toughest competition that they could find outside of their section and the WPIAL, with their only loss coming against prep school power The Kiski School, 3-2, at the JRK Memorial Classic. All-State senior Tyler Prex is off to a solid start to his senior season but the Raiders are also led by senior midfielder Zach Garma who’s part of a very deep roster that Head Coach George Williams will not hesitate using many substitutions to keep legs fresh for the breakneck style that they play. The Foxes, led by longtime coach, Erik Ingram, are always a good match-up for the Raiders in section play, as they often will play more possession based system.  The Foxes are off to a 3-1-1 overall start (1-0-0 start in section), opening section play with a 2-0 win vs Pine-Richland last week.  The Foxes have standout midfielder Milo Chiu back to a talented roster.

Class 3A — South Fayette vs Thomas Jefferson — the defending Class 3A WPIAL champs, South Fayette (2-2-0, 2-1-0 in section) are off to an up-and-down start to the 2024 campaign, as Rob Eldridge’s side lost its section opener to Bethel Park (3-1), but bounced back with a pair of wins vs McKeesport and Laurel Highlands.  The Lions, who lost 12 senior’s from last year’s WPIAL winning squad, will now have another tough test against Thomas Jefferson (3-0-1, 2-0-1 in section) squad that is without a loss, including a solid, 2-0 win vs Bethel Park.  The Jaguars return three all-section players from last year’s squad in Jake Shoemaker, Brayden Miller (all-WPIAL) and goalie Sam Wessel.
