FINAL: Robert Morris 2, Oakland 1

From Robert Morris University Athletics report

RMU women’s soccer team secured its first Horizon League win of the 2024 season with a 2-1 triumph over Oakland. Freshman Carson Bogan’s first career goal in the second half sealed the victory for the Colonials, moving their record to 2-3-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

“This is a great start to conference play earning a win, though we know there were moments we needed to be better today,” Michelle Rick, Robert Morris women’s head coach said.

“We’ll take a second to celebrate the moment and get ready to take care of business on Sunday.”

Just 11 minutes into the match, graduate forward Haleigh Finale capitalized on a defensive miscue, scoring on RMU’s first shot of the game to give the Colonials an early lead.

Julia Becerra provided the assist with a cross into the box that Oakland failed to clear, allowing Finale to poke the ball into the net.

Both teams managed four shots each during the first half, with Oakland controlling 53% of possession.

Oakland leveled the score early, as Frankie Mudd netted a goal just one minute into the second half.

RMU reclaimed the lead in the 68th minute off a set-piece opportunity. Ava Trethewey’s corner kick found the head of Carson Bogan, who scored her first career goal to put the Colonials up 2-1.

Oakland nearly equalized in the final moments, but a handball was called, helping RMU preserve their first conference win of the season.
